Mako Class Battleship reference concept

Colony Ship Concept

The Matriacrch Class colony ship is used by most human factions, it is the largest vessel of it class and assigned purpose, essentially a city in space, it is also not uncommon for them to retrofitted as battleships, with sufficent modifcation they can stand up to dedicated combat vessels like the Mako. With the insteller war reaching to 38th year, the amount of Matricachs serving in combat service has tripled and are frequently only leaving the shipyards to refitted for the front lines. The only drawback to ship is it is impossible to refit the core reactor and drive system without effectivly stripping the ship down entirely, meaning it uses a civilian class drive. The manufactures refuse to incorporate a military drive or improvements in fear of their shipyards being targeted in a "Scorched Earth" attack from one of the factions in the war

Three Matricach's orbit Kali at any time, providing colonists support from orbital drop construction packs, to fully bombarding areas with kinetic slugs and environmental controlling chemicals, deploying troops and vehicles built from the colossal vessels internal foundries and factories.

Enviromental Concept_001

Starting on my environmental pieces, still no idea what call the bloody planet, however key tourism features include: Plants that can kill you, Air that can kill you and trigger horrific hallucinations whilst melting your skin and effectively dissolving your internal organs, Tree's that secrete an acidic pus...which can kill you...Reason for choosing destination? Leprechaun Gold at the core of the planet?

On note. Write backstory for planet and name it.

Silhouettes

Gone back to the drawing board with my silhouettes, started using alchemy taken me a few attempts to work out how to get nice silhouettes, tip is to progressively add up small strokes to indicate detail, should hopefully lead to some fresh and original concepts. However I am not going back on work I have already done, I just trying new foundations.

Iteration on one of the alchemy silhouettes, trying out further aesthetics

Another Plant

Developed form one of the silhouettes, the idea behind this plant is basically a walking fragmentation grenade that responds to vibration, I added in pus like oozing for a gross factor and we giving it some organic secondary motion and also make its look more mobile and alive. I took influences from mushrooms as well as rotten apples (for the open lesions like areas with the exposed needles). I'm happy to say this is my first fully fleshed out* concept

*Has designed purpose

I am of late considering putting in my biological influence into the plants, specifically from aquatic life, to emphasize a stream like sense of locomotion, so I'm planning to visit a nearby aquarium and build up some primary research in the coming week.

Plant Concepts_001

Iterations from silhouettes, trying to get a visually organic, fleshy look to hint at exposed muscle tissue hinting at controlled motion, also taking into account some of the insect reference research I have done.

Silhouettes Series 001

First series of silhouettes for the project, going to do a few iterations on these and see what I can come out with, I plan to do a second series since this first batch doesn't meet the initial criteria on 100. But I just want to see what idea's I can get with these then further expand on with what I gain in another set. At the moment I'm trying to create visual motifs and the like while using my moodboards and likely creating new ones for more abstract details.

Insect Moodboard

Going back to my previous post and exspressing how I want the human technology to have a insectoid organic feel, I have produced this moodboard to use heavily in reference when design the Colonists technology. I really want the exskeletial and carapace plating to become a recurring theme throughout the design process.

In my spare time I developed this concept simply as a practice run, just to see at this moment in time where my idea for colonist asthetic were going, so it'll be interesting to upload it here so I can check back on it in a few weeks.
